Bag it, Box it, Recycle it

Eden District Council is introducing improvements to its kerbside recycling schemes this Summer and all parishes in Eden are set to benefit.

As of Monday 2 July 2012 the Greenbox kerbside recycling scheme provided by Eden District Council will include all households in Eden, to allow everyone to recycle cans, glass jars and bottles, paper and card and a welcome addition of plastic bottles and containers from their homes.  The new scheme will replace the existing kerbside green box and kerbside paper and card schemes currently operating until the end of June.

Boxes will be delivered to households not currently on a recycling scheme and bags will be delivered to all households throughout June.  Bags and boxes should be set out at the kerbside/roadside together and they will be emptied on a fortnightly basis by one collection vehicle.

Remote or difficult to access properties may need to present their recycling at a designated collection point as they do with their blue bags. Residents will be informed if this is the case.

Householders will receive a leaflet in May detailing how the changes will work and will receive a calendar in June showing collection dates. The Council’s Recycling Team will be holding information stands throughout the District to provide more information and answer any questions.

The current kerbside recycling schemes will continue until the end of June.  All households currently on a kerbside recycling scheme will receive a calendar through the post showing collection dates from April to the end of June. Please contact Customer Services on 01768 817817 or email customer.services@eden.gov.uk if you have not received a calendar.

Concerns have been raised regarding the future of the Village Recycling Centres but there are no plans to reduce either the number of centres or the facilities they provide. It is hoped the extended kerbside collections will provide a valuable service to residents who do not currently use Village Recycling Centres, and Eden’s recycling rate is expected to increase as a result.
