Due to routine maintenance, an upgrade and long overdue work on the hall floor following the 2015 floods, it is necessary to close the hall on the 29th, 30h and 31st March and the 18th, 19th and 20th April. The Coffee Shop will not be affected on these days.

It is recognised and regretted that both periods cover Wednesdays and Thursdays and will disrupt certain activities.  The Trustees do apologise for this inconvenience.

Jenn Mattinson is collecting community stories about Blencathra and Threlkeld and Mungrisdale life on behalf of Keswick Museum. She has provided a quick update:

There are sand bag boxes distributed throughout Threlkeld (Village Hall Car Park, Jubilee Croft, Horse & Farrier Car Park, and Town Cross) which contain sand bags and shovels, and there is a dumpy bag of sand at each location.  The code for the lock on the boxes can be obtained from any parish councillor, village hall committee or Horse & Farrier.  Please remember these boxes are for use in emergencies.

John Hopper, who was evacuated to Threlkeld in 1939, has sent this lovely description of his happy memories of his time here during World War 2.

My early memories of being evacuated to Threlkeld are those of a six year-old, in September 1939, being bundled on to a train with my nine year old sister, Dorothy and eight other girls bound for Penrith.

Older and vulnerable residents in Eden parishes are benefitting from Eden Independent Living - an Eden Housing Association initiative that enables people to stay independent in their own home. Being able to choose from a wide range of services from one place has proved popular with customers and feedback has been very positive.

Threlkeld Housing Association was established several years ago to provide low cost homes for local people.

The properties are all shared ownership jointly owned by the occupants and Threlkeld Housing Association with the aim of providing local affordable 2 and 3 bedroom homes. Threlkeld Housing Association are currently updating their waiting list for these properties.
