Poem by Carol Smith

In the lee.....

(by Carol Smith)

Sheltered in the lee of a bank, from the gale
In fleecy warmth sheep in contemplative trance
Lie chewing......waiting.......
Patient souls making time
Pass.....
Grass has stopped growing and
Snowflakes are showing in wild forays
Speckling hens foraging in
Shadowy ground 'neath
Wildly rasping grasping branches, waving
Ruffled fleece and feathers
Restless weather
Teasing creatures sheltered
In the lee........
