The Towngate Estate

The Towngate Estate is Threlkeld's oldest charity, having been formed in 1744.  It currently owns four fields and money which is held in a charitable unit trust.  The income from letting the fields to local farmers and the financial return from the investments is distributed one third each to the School, the Church and the Deserving and Needy of Threlkeld.

The Trustees meet each March to approve the accounts and to decide to whom the Deserving and Needy portion be given.  Normally it is split between a small number of organisations or individuals doing good for the people of Threlkeld.  Last year the beneficiaries were Keswick & District Community First Responders, Threlkeld Cricket Club, Threlkeld in Bloom, Threlkeld Youth Club, Voluntary Action Threlkeld, Threlkeld Brownies& Rainbows and to support a local student in humanitarian work.

If you know of groups or individuals who would like to be considered, please notify the Secretary Rachel Bazire on 017687 21283 or rachel@bazire.net.
